Acrylic and newspaper on canvas. The birch trees invite the viewer to daydream, transporting them to a walk in the forest on a fresh, crispy, blue-skied day. Upon closer look, the trunk of the tree reveals the details of the newspaper, carefeully selected from the local newstand where the image is taken from. The writing on the paper draws a parallel to the linear texture of the birch tree bark, and reminds ourselves of the origins of paper, coming from birch trees.
I am drawn to birchtrees because of their stark white, silvery trunks, which contract beautifully with the sky, and colorful leaves they are famous for. They also generally grow in groups, which speaks to their social interaction. The combination of elements creates a serene, positive and calming efect in the viewer and setting where they are placed.
